Salt Lake City Downtown Development: Salt Palace Renovation & New Entertainment District Announced

Downtown Salt Lake City is getting a major upgrade.
Salt Lake County and Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) have officially named their partners for two transformative projects: the Salt Palace Convention Center renovation and the new Delta Center entertainment district, known as the Sports, Entertainment, Culture, and Convention district (SECC).
In a recent news release, Salt Lake County announced that Construction Control Corporation (CCC) and RLB will oversee construction and cost management for the Salt Palace project, serving as local and global representatives respectively. On the design side, the county selected MHTN Architects (local) and Populous (global) as their architecture partners to reimagine the convention center.
Meanwhile, SEG revealed that world-renowned design firm HKS will create the master plan for the entertainment district, which will connect the Salt Palace with the Delta Center. This area is set to become a vibrant hub for sports, entertainment, and cultural events in downtown Salt Lake City.

HKS has an impressive portfolio, including Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, Dallas’ Victory Plaza, and Utah’s own Astra Tower—currently the tallest building in the state.
Salt Lake County emphasized that each firm submitted proposals as joint partnerships, combining local expertise with international experience. “These selections represent some of the best talent in the industry, with a unique and necessary blending of local and national expertise,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. She highlighted the project’s goals of improving walkability, creating more public spaces, and supporting the city’s growing visitor economy.
Additionally, the county renewed its property management contract with Legends Global (formerly ASM Global) and confirmed that the construction company selection process is still ongoing.
This Salt Lake City downtown development marks a significant step toward transforming the urban core into a more connected, lively, and attractive destination for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
